In Memoriam: Richard Warren Charnoff

Richard Charnoff was born in Brooklyn April 17, 1950, and raised in Queens, NY. He lived in Manhattan, but was a long-time weekend resident of Columbia county, and a neighbor in New Concord. He died Monday, September 23.

Richard delighted in collecting and perfecting his knowledge of antiques. He loved to travel visiting dozens of exotic countries including Uzbekistan, Georgia, Romania and Mali, and Syria before the war. He was a voracious reader, and even people who knew him for years were amazed at his encyclopedic memory of people, dates, historical and contemporary topics. Richard bought his first house on Tellarico Rd in West Ghent and invited friends and family for weekends, introducing them to Columbia County—many later buying homes themselves. He moved to the house on New Concord Road in the 1990s.

He was often seen strolling along the roads of New Concord, and was always eager to regale those he encountered with his adventures abroad.

Richard had a long law career, specializing in entertainment clients.

He is survived by his brother, Daniel Charnoff, of Long Island.
