Intrepid Neighbors Clean Up New Concord for Earth Day

A little over 20 stalwart neighbors met the Saturday after Earth Day to Clean Up New Concord: they formed into teams to roam the roadsides:

  1. from The Green north to I-90 on County Route 9,

  2. from The Green south to DeWitt Brown Road,

  3. from The Green down New Concord Road to Route 295

  4. from The Green up New Concord Road to Sayer Hill Road, and

  5. for all of Elliot Road.

Armed with plastic bags, gloves, rakes and grabbers, the neighbors picked up all the bottles, drink cups, food wrappers and trash visible from the roads. The collected refuse and recyclables were brought to the Chatham Town Hall parking lot, where the municipality will dispose of them.

As a reward for their efforts The Society of New Concord provided a lunch of salad, sandwiches, chips, soft drinks and cookies at the end of the cleanup. A good time to get caught up on what other neighbors are up to.

It is amazing how much waste is discarded from vehicles passing though our hamlet each year!
